Chemistry

Why do smart people fall in love with jerks? Why do two people who seem perfect for each other never start a relationship? The answer to these questions might have to do with the concept of chemistry.

To me chemistry is a feeling of attraction and easiness with a person. You find them engaging, you have an easy time talking to each other, and time seems to fly in their company. This feeling is what start off many relationships and romances. It is one of the top things people desire in a partner. But, chemistry is not a strong foundation for a relationship.

What I mean by this is that although chemistry is important and can help you decide to pursue a relationship with someone, it is not the most important thing to look for in a partner and will not make a relationship last. A person who you enjoy spending time with and are drawn too could end up being abusive, uncommitted, or just not a right fit. You also have to remember that your level of chemistry changes throughout your relationship because you and your partner are always changing. You may go through periods of time where it is a little bit harder to feel that spark, but if you are both committed and love each other, that is OK.

So when you’re looking for someone to spend your life with, it’s good to take chemistry into account, but don’t rely on it.
